The common name “cockscomb” is used as the flower looks like the crown on a rooster’s (cock) head.

Symbolism:

In Chinese culture,  Jī, which means rooster, is an auspicious animal. The Chinese believe that the rooster can ward off evil spirits as it crows at the break of dawn.

 Furthermore, the word rooster, Jī, rhymes with the word luck,  , in Chinese. Thus, making it a traditional favourite for the Chinese New Year season and used as ornamental plants displays.

Water: Water when the soil feels dry to the touch, do not over-water.

Fertiliser: Keep your plant in top form by feeding it every few weeks with a dilute solution of liquid fertiliser or sprinkling solid fertiliser over the soil.
